Setting and location
I have decided to film the video from the first person narrative of the smaller boy, and costume and make will play a vital part in portraying the characters mood. The main actor will be dressed in similar clothes to the band, which will be jeans, a plain hoody and trainers. The main characters clothing will be dull colours to strengthen the point I am trying to emphasise about his mood and I have also decided to dress the character in this type of basic clothing because it represents the bands genre typical clothing and therefore enhances the appeal of the production to the target audience. The bigger boy and the girl will be dressed in designer clothing and these will be brightly coloured to highlight the difference in appeal to the girl between the two boys. I have noticed in Arctic Monkey existing music videos that the clothing is very relaxed and casual. Below is an example I have taken from YouTube to express my point.

There are various camera techniques I will be looking to use within the filming to maximise the professionalism of the characters moods. To ensure continuity in all of my production pieces I will have three main colours, which are black, white and red. The red will be symbolic in the music video to show the love the main character has for the girl. Examples below are of music videos I have studied from the Arctic Monkeys, which show that greyscale and black and white can be used very effectively. The shots show that once again the band member and the establishing shot showing the narrative are very similar.
Props are the visual elements of a scene other than the set, and they vital in order to create a believable and therefore successful production. I want to the film the band playing on the beach, so props such as guitars, amps and microphones will need to be included in the set. During the narrative one of the characters propose to the girl, so a ring will be used as a hand prop to enhance the professionalism and realism of the video. We will also need to organise a car for the school scene, which will also require school books.
The majority of our filming will be located on the Seaford beach and the narrative will also be shot in and around college. The decision to shoot the majority of the filming within our hometown is because the Arctic Monkeys hometown of Sheffield features heavily in their music videos. College will also be used as the actors will be based there most of the time and it is easily accessible to the lighting equipment we will need when filming. The Image below is the proposed location for where we are going to film the band playing the song ‘Bigger boys and stolen sweethearts’, however we will adjust the camera settings to make the shot greyscale as it will represent the ‘smaller boys’ mood.

These images are from the Arctic Monkeys song Teddy Picker and they show that when the band members are playing their music they wear very casual clothing, similar to the characters that are portraying the narrative to the story. I want to achieve something similar to this in my music video production with the clothing to reinforce the genre, which will appeal to the target audience. The band members clothing and locations are also very basic, and the emphasis is predominantly based on the music and band themselves as opposed to acting out the narrative of the story. The lyrics of Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts allow me to focus a lot on the narrative, but there will be regular referrals back to the band at any opportunity.
